Paper The paper used for the inner sheet is an original acid-free paper with superior writability, developed in collaboration with Oji Paper Co., Ltd. Although "acid-free paper" is now commonly used, until 1984, when APICA launched the first notebook using acid-free paper in Japan, acidic paper was used for notebooks, which could not be preserved for a long period of time and often became easily damaged. With the wish to "preserve important records for a long time," we focused on acid-free paper, which was used mainly for publications at that time, and developed a writing paper that was easy to write on and had superior storage stability.
Design The classical design is reminiscent of an old book cover. Its trademark is the ornamental flame, which has been passed down for more than half a century. Different colors are used for the ornamental flame, depending on the cover color in order to give each notebook its own personality. The black back tape brings out the vivid colors on the cover, tying the whole series together. Each A4, B5, and A5 notebook has a product code (e.g. “CDXX”) stamped in gold leaf.
The cover features a specialty paper called fancy paper that expresses the texture and color of elegant textiles. While the combination of ornamental frame and fiber-added paper was common, we used "Tsuzure", a special paper with deep and beautiful colors, as the cover material, considering design and functionality (ease of use). In addition to classic colors such as white, red, and yellow, there are Japanese names such as “Hiwa” (greenfinch) or “Sora” (sky) which match the color of the cover.
Size.C.D. NOTEBOOK has a wide range of size variations as well as cover colors. The wide range of sizes from A4 to A7 is available to accompany "writing" at any time, such as when writing carefully at a desk or writing down a flash of inspiration. Durable thread binding is used for all sizes, allowing you to enjoy writing in earnest even in the smallest size.
Binding We use durable thread binding that is a method in which thread is stitched through the cover and inner sheet using a sewing machine. Nowadays there are various other ways to bind notebooks, such as glued binding, stapled binding, and wire binding. However, it has long been said that thread binding is more durable than other methods. It may take time and be more costly, but we believe that this is the best method to ensure the long-lasting reliability of the notebooks for our users.
